The African Transformation Movement ATM has announced the appointment of Professor Caesar Nongqunga as its new President, replacing Vuyo Zungula.

Nongqunga is the current Chief Apostle of the Twelve Apostles Church in Christ TACC.

ATM removes Vuyo Zungula

The party made the surprise announcement on Monday 9 June and thanked Zungula for his remarkable service.

"His visionary leadership has been instrumental in registering the party, advocating for the voiceless and firmly establishing the ATM on the political landscape of South Africa it said.

"Under President Zungula's stewardship, the ATM has grown from its modest beginnings to a formidable force, advocating for economic transformation and the upliftment of the marginalised communities across our nation.

Zungula has led ATM since it was formed in 2018. He will continue in his role as its Party Leader in Parliament, the party said.

He is especially known for his opposition to President Cyril Ramaphosas leadership, with ATM being involved in litigation against Ramaphosa on matters such as the Phala Phala scandal.

Under Zungulas leadership, ATM has also been a strong voice for economic transformation, against illegal immigration and for prioritising South Africans for employment over foreign nationals.
