National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza has declined to approve a decision by the ad hoc committee to subpoena controversial businessman Brown Mogotsi.

The committee, which is probing allegations by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, took the decision last week after Mogotsi demanded that Parliament pays for his private security for the duration of his testimony.

Committee secretary Vhonani Ramaano told the committee on Wednesday 28 January that Parliament had offered to provide Mogotsi protection or escorts as soon as he landed in Cape Town. However, he refused, forcing a postponement of his testimony that was scheduled to start on Thursday.
