AZAPOs president Nelvis Qekema is confident that they are the only political force rooted in the philosophy of self-definition and radical transformation.

AZAPO is holding its two-day 27th National Congress in Bloemfontein, Free State, where a new leadership will also be elected. The organisation says its congress takes place against the backdrop of a resurgence of global white supremacy and a compromised leadership.

We intend to tackle organisational renewal and repositioning, economic justice and employment amongst others. We will reaffirm our historic mission of building black power. Comrades as AZAPO we are skeptical about the National Dialogue because the government is spending R74 million on that alone. So ours is to oversee the process up to the end result because we do not intend to boycott it,says Qekema.

Qekema also announced that the organisation is positioning itself for the 2026 local government elections as it intends to contest.

Black consciousness founder, Prof Barney Pityana has advised members to vote with a clear mind to transform the country for its betterment.
