The MK Party, which is led by former President Jacob Zuma, is seeking an apology from former President Thabo Mbeki, who has described it as a product of counterrevolutionary forces.

Mbeki was critical of MK Party during his keynote address at the inaugural uMkhonto weSizwe Liberation War Veterans MKLWV conference on Saturday 17 January in the Free State.

He claimed apartheid security and intelligence forces had infiltrated townships and rural villages before the 1994 democratic breakthrough, citing Gauteng Inkatha Freedom Party IFP members in the early 1990s as an example.
