Silvia Pinal, a prominent actress from Mexico's Golden Age of cinema, passed away at the age of 93. Pinal had an illustrious 60-year career, making significant contributions to Mexican film. She starred alongside iconic figures like Cantinflas, Tin Tan, and Pedro Infante. One of her most notable roles was in Luis Buuel's acclaimed 1961 film "Viridiana", which she followed up with two other Buuel films "The Exterminating Angel" 1962 and "Simon of the Desert" 1965.
Pinal was one of the few actresses from the Golden Age who successfully transitioned into television after the Mexican film industry declined in the 1960s. She also had a career as a producer and served in Congress.
Earlier this month, Pinal was hospitalized for a urinary tract infection, and her death was confirmed by Mexicos Culture Secretary, Claudia Curiel de Icaza. Curiel de Icaza honored Pinal's legacy, saying, "Her legacy as an artist and her contributions to our culture are unforgettable. Rest in peace."
