The SABC has reliably learnt that Democratic Alliance DA leader John Steenhuisen will not be standing for re-election.
He is expected make the announcement at a media briefing in Durban on Wednesday, where he started his political career some 30 years ago.
Despite this development, the partys Federal Chairperson Helen Zille denies any tension within party ranks.
