Eskom Forecasts No Loadshedding For Winter 2025

eskom forecasts no loadshedding for winter 2025

Power utility Eskom has provided an optimistic update regarding its power system, hoisting expectations for Winter 2025 that suggest loadshedding may largely be avoided, Cape town Etc reports.

The utilitys latest power system update reveals that if unplanned maintenance remains below 13 gigawatts GW, the nation could experience its most stable winter in years.

The forecast indicates that should unplanned outages surge to 15GW, loadshedding would be limited to a maximum of 21 days throughout the 153 days of winter, significantly improved from last year when the worst-case scenario included Stage 5 loadshedding.

This positive projection stems from a remarkable 3.1GW decline in unplanned outages year-on-year, bringing the forecast range down to 13-15GW compared to 14-17GW in Winter 2024.

Remarkably, the previous winter recorded no loadshedding at all, with unplanned outages averaging only 12.3GW, a number well below the Winter 2024's base-case projection of 14GW.
