Kubayi Urges Use Of Modern Technology To Fight Corruption

Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi says methods to prevent and combat corruption must be incorporated with modern technology. She says this is in light of increasing cybercrimes across the globe.

Kubayi was delivering a keynote address in Cape Town, at a four-day 15th Commonwealth Regional Conference of Heads of Anti-Corruption agencies in Africa.

Kubayi says law enforcement should include technology in their investigative methods, like Artificial Intelligence.

"Through AI data can be analysed and patterns detected much faster. By using sophisticated algorithms AI can identify and recognise patterns of suspicious spending, detect sudden shifts in financial behaviour and highlight inconsistent behaviour that may indicate bribery, fraud or money laundering," says Kubayi.

Kubayi added that her department will now enforce lifestyle audits, in an effort to prevent and combat corruption.
