nsri tows local rhib to safety after steering failure

In a dramatic call for assistance, the National Sea Rescue Institute NSRI Table Bay was activated on Thursday to respond to a local RHIB Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat that had reported steering failure while navigating offshore of Granger Bay, Cape town Etc reports.

The vessel was carrying two individuals, a father and his son, when they encountered difficulty.

NSRI Table Bay duty coxswain Ewald Bonzet recounted the quick response from the rescue team after the Transnet National Ports Authority TNPA Port Control raised the alarm.

We launched our rescue craft, Spirit of Day , from the NSRI Table Bay station 3 rescue base and made our way to the area where the boat was reported, Bonzet said.

Upon arrival, the NSRI found the RHIB safely anchored, with the father and son unharmed but understandably shaken. A towline was rigged, and they were towed safely into port without incident. Luckily, after recovering their vessel, they did not require any further assistance, Bonzet added.
