Shocking footage of a schoolgirl being viciously assaulted by fellow pupils outside a scholar transport vehicle has sent shockwaves through South Africa, igniting widespread public anger and prompting immediate action from provincial authorities, Cape town Etc reports.

The disturbing incident, captured on video and widely shared on social media on 1 August, shows a female learner from David Mama Senior Secondary School in Buffalo City being slapped, shoved, and punched by a group of schoolmates.

The assault began as the girl disembarked from the school bus and continued as onlookers laughed and filmed the scene instead of stepping in.

The Eastern Cape Department of Education has condemned the incident, calling it 'unacceptable and unimaginable,' and confirmed that an investigation team will be dispatched to the school on Monday, 4 August.
