Many Christians have called on South Africans to use Good Friday to unite against injustices and social challenges facing the country. They were participating in a silent ecumenical procession with a cross through the streets of Durban to the city hall.
The march is an annual event led by the Diakonia Council of Churches following an early morning Good Friday service. The walk, which was first held in 1985, is used to urge communities to practice compassion, remembrance and action against injustice.
Today we are facing a challenge where we were asked to rise and act justly and walk humbly wherever we are or where we are placed so that we show this love of Christ which he gained on the cross. I think its about unity and about connecting with one another. Our province is a province of diversity and about connectivity, I want everybody to unite, says some participants of the walk.
