The Democratic Alliance DA in Gauteng says it will seek legal opinion on the decision to declare more than 9 000 Crime Wardens known as AmaPanyaza as peace officers.
This after the Department of Justice on Friday announced that the Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens would be reclassified as peace officers to assist provincial law enforcement.
The DAs provincial leader, Solly Msimanga, says the process to grant peace officer status to the wardens appears to be rushed and may lack the required legislative framework.
