The Kuruman District Hospital in the Northern Cape has been capacitated with a temporary 45-bed emergency facility in an effort to deal with overcrowding at the hospital.

In May 2025, videos of patients sleeping in the hospital corridors flooded social media, with many sharing their uncomfortable personal experiences.

The provincial department of health says that following the outcry of patients, construction of a permanent structure to deal with challenges at the facility will start in a month or two.
