Around one third of respondents to our latest poll say their businesses have been affected by cybercrime, indicating that global growth in data breaches, email account hacking and sophisticated phishing scams is having some impact on the inbound tourism sector.
A significant 30 of respondents said their businesses have fallen victim to cybercrime. The remaining 70 said they havent been affected.
Tourism Update conducted the poll after receiving reports of operators losing significant amounts of money on bookings after the email accounts of partnering suppliers were hacked. Insurance and IT experts cautioned that business email compromise, together with data breaches and ransomware attacks, are common tactics used by hackers to target tour operators.
