Sa's Water System On The Brink Of Collapse As Billions Go Unpaid

The country's water system is teetering on the edge of collapse as failing municipalities, not water boards, continue to drag the system into deeper chaos.
The Association of Water and Sanitation Institutions of South Africa AWSISA has spoken out, blasting the false narrative that water boards are the culprits behind dry taps and dysfunctional infrastructure across the country.
In reality, more than 100 municipalities are falling apart, riddled with poor management, neglected infrastructure, and a lack of skilled personnel - all while still holding onto the responsibility of being water service providers.
AWSISA revealed that, despite being self-funded and receiving no financial aid from the government, water boards are owed a staggering R28 billion by these same municipalities, which fail to pay for bulk water services.
While water boards juggle unpaid debts, they're still sending emergency supplies, offering technical advice, and guiding infrastructure projects in a desperate attempt to hold the line, as BusinessTech has reported.
