Pringle Bay Baboon Shot Dead As Anger Mounts

pringle bay baboon shot dead as anger mounts

Another baboon has been gunned down in Pringle Bay, and this time, witnesses claim the animal was shot in the back - an incident that has triggered widespread outrage and renewed demands for change in how baboons are managed in the Overstrand region, Cape town Etc reports.

'Enough is enough!' one furious local declared online, slamming the authorities for allowing repeated killings in communities like Simon's Town, Constantia and now Pringle Bay.

'Not a single conviction has followed any of these shootings. What are the authorities doing? Absolutely nothing!'

Wildlife supporters and residents have long argued that these killings are not only brutal but also ineffective - and now, they fear things are about to get worse.

On 29 April 2024, the Overstrand Municipality presented a new baboon management plan for Pringle Bay at a Ward 10 Council Meeting. The announcement followed years of baboon-human conflict in the area, which has worsened due to expanding urban development into the baboons natural foraging grounds.
