The South African Municipal Workers Union SAMWU in Gauteng has welcomed the approval of the City of Johannesburgs multi-million-rand adjustment budget, describing it as a significant step towards addressing long-standing salary disparities among municipal workers.
The adjustment budget is typically reviewed midway through the financial year, which allows municipalities to revise spending priorities, reallocate funds and respond to financial pressures.
In Johannesburg, one of the country's largest metros, with an annual budget exceeding R10.3 billion, such adjustments are critical to maintaining service delivery while addressing internal financial obligations.
