Corruption-accused tenderpreneur Vusimuzi Cat Matlala has formally withdrawn from his plea and sentence deal with the National Prosecuting Authoritys NPA Investigating Directorate Against Corruption IDAC.
This follows a proposal by the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Pretoria on 1 July to add four years to the sentence he had agreed to in the deal. He had agreed to an effective prison term of eight years, but Magistrate Ignatius Du Preez ruled that this was not just.
Matlala withdraws from IDAC plea dealDu Preez therefore proposed 12 years, and it was up to Matlala to either accept this sentence or quit the plea agreement altogether. He opted for the latter during a brief appearance on Monday 13 July.
