President Cyril Ramaphosa has warned that while South Africans enjoy the constitutional right to protest, it comes with responsibility and does not include threats, ultimatums, intimidation, violence or vigilantism.
March and March and several other groups have planned nationwide marches on Tuesday, 30 June against undocumented immigration. Some have set this date as the deadline for illegal immigrants to leave South Africa, raising fears of potential targeting of foreign nationals.
Ramaphosa issues 30 June warningIn his weekly newsletter on Monday, Ramaphosa said those who intend to protest should do so peacefully while respecting the safety and dignity of others.
