Billionaire businessman Patrice Motsepe is noncommittal about a possible campaign to be the next African National Congress ANC President.
Speculation is rising that Motsepe, who currently serves as Confederation of African Football CAF President, may be a third option for ANC members to consider.
As Deputy President, Paul Mashatile is seen as the frontrunner. He has also received an early endorsement from ANC veteran Tokyo Sexwale .
Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula is also seen as a potential contender. Last month, he distanced himself from a campaign poster touting him for the position.
However, in recent weeks, Motsepes name has also emerged. According to The Star , which cited well-placed sources within the party, several senior ANC members are quietly rallying behind him.
This unofficial push is said to also include Police Minister Senzo Mchunu for Deputy President and Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane for Secretary-General.
