Legendary South African musician and DJ Oskido is gearing up to host his much-anticipated festival, Oskidos Big Day Out, on 30 November. The event will showcase the vibrant culture of South African house music, featuring some of the industry's most iconic artists. Not only is the festival a celebration of the genre, but it also coincides with Oskido's birthday and serves as a way for him to give back to the community.
Speaking about the festival, Oskido emphasized its importance in preserving and promoting South African music culture. He explained that such events help celebrate local talent, honor their heritage, and inspire the next generation of artists. Its a way to give back and honor the support Ive received throughout my career, Oskido shared.
Looking ahead, Oskido expressed his desire to make Oskidos Big Day Out an annual event, with plans to expand it to other cities in South Africa and internationally. He also aims to mentor young talent and elevate African music on the global stage.
Reflecting on his decades-long career, Oskido acknowledged the industry's progress but pointed out that more needs to be done, especially in terms of fairer revenue sharing for local artists. He shared that some of his proudest moments include founding Kalawa Jazmee, collaborating with music legends, and seeing the impact of his work.
