Senegal have been crowned Africa Cup of Nations champions for the second time in their history , following their dramatic triumph at AFCON 2025. The Lions of Teranga had previously won the tournament in 2021 and finished runners-up in 2002, making 2025 another landmark year in their continental journey.
Softfootball gathered, their first AFCON title came in the 2021 edition, although the final was played on 6 February 2022 due to scheduling changes. Senegal defeated Egypt 4-2 on penalties after a goalless draw at the Olembe Stadium in Yaounde, Cameroon, with Sadio Mane playing a pivotal role in the historic victory.
Senegal's first appearance in an AFCON final was in 2002, where they faced Cameroon at the Stade du 26 Mars in Bamako, Mali. That final also ended in a penalty shootout, with Cameroon edging Senegal 3-2 to claim the trophy.
