The African National Congress ANC has expressed concern over its recent losses to the uMkhonto weSizwe MK party in three wards during by-elections in KwaZulu-Natal.
Under the leadership of its newly-appointed Provincial Task Team, the ANC lost Ward 2 in Richmond, Ward 28 in KwaDukuza, and Ward 18 in Mandeni.
The partys national leadership and the Provincial Task Team held a meeting yesterday to assess the progress of ongoing organisational renewal efforts in the province following its electoral defeat in 2024.
Speaking to the media in Durban after the meeting, ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula acknowledged the setbacks.
"We have lost and we did not camouflage this loss here in KwaZulu-Natal. We are a 17 party and we need to get out of that," Mbalula said.
