As a series of cold fronts make their way towards the Cape, the South African Weather Service SAWS has issued a Yellow level 4 warning for disruptive rain along with warnings for damaging winds and waves, reports Cape town Etc .
According to SAWS, the series of cold fronts is expected to make landfall on Thursday, Friday and Sunday 3 to 6 July, bringing widespread showers, strong to gale-force winds, choppy sea conditions and very cold temperatures:
- Yellow level 4 warning for disruptive rain
- Yellow level 2 warning for damaging winds
- Yellow level 2 warning for damaging waves
- Advisory for very cold, wet and windy conditions
The most significant cold front will reach the south-western Cape by Friday afternoon, where quick and heavy downpours are possible, with another cold front expected on Sunday, said SAWS in its Yellow level 4 warning.
Four-day rainfall accumulations of 30 to 60mm are likely over the south-western parts, reaching 70 to 90mm over the mountainous region with most of the rainfall expected from Friday into Saturday. Rain-on-rain together with saturated soils will lead to significant impacts.
In addition to disruptive rains, SAWS issued a Yellow level 2 warning for damaging winds for Friday, 4 July.
