President Cyril Ramaphosa says the government is examining claims that groups calling on the United States to intervene in South Africa are contravening various laws.

Over the past year, civil rights group AfriForum and the Solidarity Movement have intensified calls for international intervention in South Africa.

Their officials met Trump administration officials in Washington in February 2025. They handed over a Washington Memorandum calling on the administration to pressure the South African government to drop certain provisions in policies such as the Expropriation Act and Basic Education Laws Amendment BELA Act.
