The eThekwini Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal says the water is safe to drink despite the earthy or musty taste and odour of the water in the south and central parts of the Durban metro.
The municipality says the water complies with quality and safety standards.
The metro says the taste and smell is due to an organic compound caused by increased levels of blue-green algae in Inanda Dam and the Wiggens water treatment works.
