City of Ekurhuleni Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza says he is consulting his legal team following recent News24 reporting on the 2023 murder of DJ Bongani Mfihlo.
In an article published on 19 January, News24 investigative reporters Sikonathi Mantshantsha and Jeff Wicks reported that Xhakaza was allegedly at the scene of Mfihlos murder and that the South African Police Service SAPS in Kempon Park had allegedly concealed this for nearly two years.
Ekurhuleni security guards linked to the city allegedly shot and killed Mfihlo, and one of them was arrested in July 2025 for the murder of Ekurhuleni chief auditor Mpho Mafole, who was shot in June 2025.
