Cold fronts, overflowing rivers and soaked mountain catchments have delivered a dramatic turnaround for Cape Town's water reserves, with dam levels climbing sharply after an unusually intense rainfall event across parts of the Western Cape.

According to the City of Cape Town , the Mother Citys water outlook shifted dramatically this week, with dam levels climbing to 70,8 after heavy rainfall delivered a near 20 boost in only one week.

The sudden rise follows what officials described as an exceptionally rare rainfall event, with some catchment areas experiencing rainfall intensities expected only once every 20 to 200 years.
