The African National Congress ANC First Deputy Secretary-General, Nomvula Mokonyane, has called on the American left to intervene after United States military action against Venezuela .
Her comments follow a protest outside the US Consulate in Sandton where ANC representatives joined the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa NUMSA and aligned civil society groups.
Mokonyane elaborates: Our call is that not all Americans are like Trump and not all Americans support what Donald Trump is doing and therefore, we need to continue to interact with them. The ANC is in touch with various civil society bodies, members of the House of Representatives and some of the members of the House of Democrats. We have also hosted them when we had them here in South Africa - meeting of liberation movements, they came to support us and the call that has also been made by NUMSA that we need the global left to come together.
