A man who tried to kill Donald Trump during a 2024 campaign stop in Florida will spend the rest of his life in prison, after a judge handed down the maximum sentence for the attack.
Ryan Routh, 59, was sentenced to life after being convicted of attempting to assassinate Trump at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach in September last year, when Trump was still running for president, as per the BBC .
The plot was thwarted when a US Secret Service agent noticed a rifle barrel sticking out from nearby bushes and opened fire, forcing Routh to flee before he was arrested a short distance away.
