England manager Sarina Wiegman described her side's achievement as "incredible" after the Lionesses claimed back-to-back European Championship titles by defeating Spain in a dramatic penalty shootout on Sunday.

Despite a rocky start to their Euro 2025 campaign in Switzerland - where they suffered an opening match defeat to France - England held their nerve in the final in Basel, eventually winning 3-1 on penalties after the match ended 1-1 following extra time. The victory marked sweet revenge against Spain, who had beaten England in the 2023 World Cup final.

"I just can't believe it," Wiegman told BBC One. "I have a medal around my neck and we have a trophy. It's been the most chaotic tournament - all the challenges we faced on the pitch, from the very first game. Losing your opening match and still becoming European champions is simply incredible. Football is chaos."

The Dutch coach praised her team's resilience, noting their ability to win "by any means" throughout the tournament. "That's what we've shown again today. I'm so proud of the team and the staff. It is incredible," she added.

England captain Leah Williamson echoed her coach's sentiments, admitting she always believed the team would find a way to win. "Total disbelief - but at the same time, I knew it was going to happen," she said. "There's always that moment when I think, 'right girls, let's turn it on.'"
