wet cape town mountain trails leave two tourists needing rescue

Cape Town's mountain trails may look calm after the rain, but rescue teams say the danger underfoot is growing fast. Two international visitors had to be airlifted from popular hiking routes on Monday after separate accidents occurred on Lion's Head and in Silvermine, Cape town Etc reports.

According to Wilderness Search and Rescue WSAR , recent rainfall has left many of the city's well-known trails muddy, unstable and dangerously slick - especially on steep downhill sections where loose rock and wet surfaces can quickly turn a casual hike into an emergency.

Two rescues in one day

The first callout happened just before midday near the summit of Lion's Head, one of Cape Town's busiest hiking spots, popular with both tourists and locals.
