More than 8 700 units of illegally harvested abalone worth an estimated R900 000 have been seized across two Western Cape operations, as authorities intensify efforts to curb marine poaching along the province's coastline.

The latest enforcement action, announced by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment , unfolded over two days and led to multiple arrests in operations stretching from Simon's Town to Gordon's Bay, as per NovaNews .

The first operation took place near Partridge Point in Simon's Town on 21 May, where enforcement teams confiscated 106 units of abalone and arrested suspects linked to the alleged illegal harvesting activity.
