The Blue Downs Magistrates Court has today sentenced a man from Kraaifontein in the Western Cape to 12 years direct imprisonment for downloading and distributing hundreds of images and videos of child pornography.
National Prosecuting Authority NPA spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila says the convict has entered a plea and sentencing agreement with the state.
During a raid last year, officers also seized illegal firearms.
The man was also found to be keeping animals without the necessary permits that were being ill-treated.
The Blue Downs Magistrates Court has ordered his name to be entered into the National Register of Sex Offenders and declared him unfit to possess a firearm after he pleaded guilty to illegally downloading and distributing hundreds of images and videos of child pornography. He was also found guilty of two counts of illegal possession of a firearm, two counts of illegal possession of ammunition, two counts of cruelty to animals and restricted activity involving threatened or protected species without a permit, says Ntabazilila.
