The Department of Water and Sanitation in the Western Cape says it will closely monitor dam levels following predictions of lower rainfall this year.

The Department has however allayed fears of water restrictions similar to those of 2017, following three years of drought.

Head of the Department Ntombizanele Bila-Mupariwa says dam levels are still healthy at just over 58.

"The dam levels in the Western Cape are looking healthy and we are not in the position to implement water restriction right now. We will however continue monitor the dam levels very closely on a quarterly basis, monthly basis and we are going to inform our consumers in terms of the dam levels within the Western Cape."
