uj students protest rape cases demand action after kingsway assault

University of Johannesburg UJ students were protesting outside the SABC on Friday, seeking media coverage for their concerns about the recent surge in rape cases on campuses and the lack of effective response or support.

On Thursday, a student was allegedly at Kingsway Place residence. One of the protestors says there are several cases that have not been dealt with and they want to be heard and the only way to do so is through the media.

UJ EFF Youth Commander Tanele Mona says, We are here at SABC to get media coverage on what has been going on in our institutions with gender-based violence. Not only at UJ, but many more institutions out there even the residences that we are staying in. They are not taking us seriously to some extent. We need to demonstrate because we are tired. It starts from a simple comment from the Malumes we are given by UJ to protect us and the next thing is them forcing themselves on us.
