A fundraising gala for Tanzanias ruling party pulled in more than 86 billion shillings about 35 million on Tuesday night, with businessman Ghalib Said Mohamed making the single largest individual donation. The event, hosted by Chama Cha Mapinduzi at Mlimani City Hall in Dar es Salaam, drew cabinet ministers, business leaders, party loyalists and other prominent figures. Organizers said 56 billion shillings 22.7 million came in cash, while another 30 billion 12.2 million was pledged. Mohamed, who heads the GSM Group, contributed 10 billion shillings 4.1 million. His conglomerate has holdings in logistics, real estate, retail, manufacturing and fuel distribution, including Galco Transport Logistics, GSM Retail, GSM Foam, GSM Steel and GSM Petroleum. The groups businesses range from operating a large fleet of trucks and warehouses to managing shopping centers and exclusive retail franchises in Tanzania. Mining companies together gave about 16.2 billion shillings 6.6 million, according to the party. Other contributions came from religious leaders, government officials, cooperatives and individual supporters. CCM Secretary General Emmanuel Nchimbi told reporters the money would not be used solely for the 2025 election campaign but also for long-term party-building projects. The party had set a goal of raising 100 billion shillings 40.5 million, a target that has sparked debate over compliance with election spending rules. President Samia Suluhu Hassan, the partys chairwoman, closed the evening by urging members to sustain and strengthen CCMs legacy through continued support.
