Six minibus taxis were taken off the road on Wednesday morning as authorities tightened control over taxi routes linking Khayelitsha, Mfuleni and Somerset West.
The City of Cape Town confirmed that the impoundments come amid a 30-day closure of key taxi corridors announced late last week by the Western Cape Government. The shutdown affects routes between Khayelitsha, Lwandle, Mfuleni and Somerset West , following weeks of mounting friction between rival taxi associations, as per Smile FM .
To keep the situation under control, the City's Safety and Security Directorate has set up a Joint Operations Centre JOC. The hub is coordinating enforcement across Somerset West and surrounding areas to ensure the temporary restrictions are upheld and commuters remain safe.
