Ahead of the SA20 2025 season, former India captain and BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly, has been appointed as the head coach of Pretoria Capitals. This will be Ganguly's first stint as head coach of a professional franchise. The Centurion-based side confirmed the news on social media with the post and welcomed the 53-year-old.
Pretoria Capitals have had a mixed history in the SA20 since its beginning. They topped the league table in the inaugural edition in 2023 and reached the final before losing to Sunrisers Eastern Cape. However, their form dipped in the following seasons.
In 2024 and 2025, the team finished fifth on both occasions, missing out on the playoffs. The management will now be hoping that Ganguly's appointment changes their fortune and hopes for a stronger campaign in the fourth edition of the tournament, starting December 26. Furthermore, legendary South African bowler Shaun Pollock has been appointed as an assistant coach.Notably, Ganguly replaces Jonathan Trott, who stepped down after a difficult 2025 season where the Capitals managed just two wins from ten matches.
