A major safety turnaround is unfolding on Table Mountain, with new data showing a sharp drop in robberies across the national park as the festive season approaches.
South African National Parks has confirmed that strengthened patrols, expanded ranger teams and upgraded technology are delivering some of the most encouraging results in years.
Incident logs from the TMNP Ops Room reveal a dramatic shift. After a spike of 15 robberies in March 2025, cases fell to single-digit levels from June through November. Since the expansion of the elite Sea-Air-Mountain SEAM unit earlier this year, only 17 robberies were recorded between June and November, less than half the 37 cases reported over the same period in 2024. Attempted robberies also showed improvement, dropping from 12 last year to eight in 2025.
