National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola says they have established a special team to investigate the murder of Walter Sisulu University Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Sinethemba Mpambane.
Mpambane was killed outside the institutions Mthatha Campus on Thursday.
The Commissioner also confirmed that Mpambane had R27 000 in his possession at the time of his attack.
The universitys Mthatha campus has been in the spotlight recently after a third-year student, Sisonke Mbolekwa, was fatally shot, allegedly by a residence manager.
Masemola says the motive for Mpambanes killing is not yet known.
