A total of 36 illegal online gambling cases were reported to the police and the Hawks over the past five years.
Thats according to a Parliamentary reply by Police Minister Senzo Mchunu to a question asked by Rise Mzansi.
The Police Minister has revealed that 39 arrests were made in relation to the incidents during the same period.
Rise Mzansi Member of Parliament Makashule Gana says they are fighting against illegal gambling.
"As Rise Mzansi we have taken the fight against illegal gambling and gambling reforms to the countrys law enforcement agencies. We can today reveal work is being done at the level of DPCI, the Hawks, to end the scourge of illegal gambling in South Africa. We will not rest until there are gambling reforms in South Africa. The Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu in a Parliamentary reply to Rise Mzansi Parliamentary question has revealed that in the last five year 36 illegal online cases were reported, 39 arrests were made in illegal online gambling cases, 22 arrests resulted in conviction."
