Over a thousand members of the National Union of Mineworkers NUM have embarked on a strike action at Impala Platinum s Shaft Number 1 in Rustenburg.
They are demanding recognition of their union by the company providing services to Impala.
It is reported that the company has a closed shop agreement with another union, which means no other union will be recognised at the mine.
