The National Prosecuting Authoritys Asset Forfeiture Unit has been granted a preservation order to seize properties of the accused linked to the Free State asbestos roof removal case.
The properties are valued at R32 million.
NPA Spokesperson Mthunzi Mhaga says the order includes a luxury car, purchased in cash for R2 million, allegedly with proceeds of crime linked to the case.
Mhaga adds that the Asset Forfeiture Unit believes the properties are proceeds of unlawful activities of theft, fraud, corruption, and money laundering, perpetuated against the Free State Department of Human Settlements.
A total of 18 people are facing various charges linked to the asbestos roof removal project that was contracted in 2014.
