Thousands of Gauteng commuters will continue paying the same Gautrain fares over the next year after the rail service confirmed that there will be no annual fare increase from 1 June 2026.
The decision comes as many South Africans continue to battle rising living costs, including higher food, fuel and transport expenses. For regular passengers who rely on the Gautrain to travel between Johannesburg, Pretoria and OR Tambo International Airport, the fare freeze is expected to ease some pressure on household budgets.
Gautrain Management Agency said fares across the Gautrain network will remain unchanged throughout 2026, while its R1 parking promotion will also continue until September next year.
