The Nelson Mandela University NMU has welcomed the life sentence handed down by the George Magistrates Court in the Western Cape to a former student, f or the murder of a fellow student at the George campus in June last year.
Earlier this year, 24-year-old Luyanda Mahlanza was found guilty of murdering Zimkhitha Ntshisela.
Ntshisela was stabbed several times at her residence on campus.
NMU spokesperson Zandile Ngwendu says the sentencing concludes a dark chapter for the university.
Ngwendu says the university community continues to mourn the loss of Zimkhitha, a young, gifted woman whose life was violently and unjustly cut short.
