Liebherr-Africa is stepping up its long-term support for southern Africas port and terminal operations with the development of a multimillion- rand competence and distribution centre in Durban. The new facility, currently under construction, will serve as a central hub for sales, technical expertise, parts availability and OEM lifecycle support, helping ports improve equipment uptime and operational reliability. This is a long-term investment in both infrastructure and local capability, said Darren Jankelow, head of sales maritime cranes and construction machines at Liebherr-Africa. The centre will strengthen our ability to support customers with faster parts supply, deeper technical backup and improved lifecycle services that keep critical equipment available and productive. A key component of the development is a technology and training campus, designed to support the training and upskilling of professionals working in the port and terminal industry. Liebherr has also upgraded and expanded its service hubs in the Western Cape to strengthen support for Transnet Port Terminals across the western and eastern regions, while continuing to assist with the refurbishment, recommissioning and optimisation of existing Liebherr maritime cranes. This year, the company plans to expand its offering of smart, efficient and sustainable solutions tailored to African operating conditions, including digital condition monitoring, predictive maintenance tools and fleet performance systems. Liebherr is also increasing its focus on electrified and energy-efficient equipment as port authorities and terminal operators place greater emphasis on decarbonisation. LV
