Indonesias Ministry of Forestry has banned elephant rides nationwide following a directive that was issued last month in response to a PETA investigation.

According to PETA, Mason Elephant Park and Lodge in Bali became the last facility in the country to end elephant rides this week.

The move puts Indonesia at the forefront of elephant welfare. While more work remains, this makes Indonesia the first country in Asia to ban elephant rides nationwide, said Jason Baker , President of PETA Asia.
