At 2pm on Sunday, NSRI Table Bay deployed the rescue crafts DHL Deliverer and Spirit of Day to assist with a medical evacuation at sea.

The operation involved retrieving a 48-year-old Myanmar seafarer from an oil tanker located approximately 10 nautical miles off Green Point.

An NSRI Maritime Extrication MEX crewman boarded the tanker from the RHIB Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat Spirit of Day and prepared the patient for transfer.

The seafarer, secured on a safety line, moved from the tanker to Spirit of Day . Then onto the offshore rescue craft DHL Deliverer where WC Government Health EMS rescue paramedics took over care. The patient remained stable while on board NSRI .

Collaborative team effort

Once ashore at the NSRI Table Bay station, the seafarer was handed to an EMS ambulance activated by EMS Metro Control and transported to hospital for further care.
