Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency MTPA CEO Mduduzi Vilakazi has resigned with immediate effect, following the start of a disciplinary hearing. His resignation, effective November 3, follows a period of precautionary suspension, according to the agencys interim Board.
Speaking to Tourism Update , Kruger Lowveld Chamber of Business and Tourism CEO Linda Grimbeek said the resignation marks a necessary step forward for the sector. We are happy that the process is concluded and that we can now look forward to a sustainable future at MTPA. Theres been too much change of hands in leadership there and we hope that this will be the beginning of stabilisation.
Grimbeek said prolonged leadership instability at MTPA had a big impact on the sector, noting that the provincial tourism Think Tank had not met for four years due to lack of participation by the agency. MTPA is a key player in the industry and, if it does not come to the table, then basically no one else does.
